We do not know exactly when the house was built, but it is for certain that aunt Bori - who was a talent in drawing, writing and embroyderey - lived here in 1876. Since that time the building has not changed much, although the windows and the door are definitely from the early 20th century.

Entering the house we will straight away see the arch separating the kitche into two divisions. Simple and less decorative plates are hanging on the wall.

Entering through the arch we get into the kitchen. Above the half of the room there stands a free chimney with the smoking bars inside. The tools used for the every day cooking are hanging on the kitchen bench along the walls.

The room looks just about the same as in aunty Bori's time. Beside the door there stands the stove with a bench around it. There are seats in which the toddlers were placed.

The bed used to belong to aunty Bori. The changes of the popular arts styles can also be traced back on the pieces of furniture. The ornamentation of the beds and wooden boxes became more and more dense during the years.

The bedding seen on the bed is of such kind that was not to be used. In case thy wante dto go to bed, they had to either carefully remove this bedding, or - if it was made in a certain way - they could hide in underneath.

The walls are full of religious icons. Clay plates were placed under the pictures, which also had to be closely put beside each other.

The whole room is filled with cheap but richly ornamented objects, such as cups on the wall, coloured paper stripes among the plates on the wall, etc.

The chamber in Mezőkövesd was not only used for storing space, but the dowry of the daughter-in-law was also placed there. This had to be here as long as mother-in-law lived.

The Bori Kisjankó memorial house serves for two purposes. One is to demonstrate the life work of the exceptional talent in popular arts, Bori Kisjankó, and the other is to represent the lifestyle of the agricultural workers.
