Phone number: (1) 375-1184
Opening hours: Mon, Wed-16
Our institute was formed as the National Theatre History Museum in 2nd November 1952. The museum moved to its present residence (District I, 57 Krisztina körút, District I), the Áldássy-mansion. The first permanent exhibition opened in the same year.

From 1953 our this institute was handling the Bajor Gizi Actor Museum, too, which opened in the ex-flat of the actress at 16 Stromfeld Aurél Street, 12th District.

In March 1957 our institute went over some alterations and its name became Theatrical and Film Science Institute. Besides the museum, the Hungarian State Film Archive also operated under the auspices of this institute. The institute divided into two different parts in 1959, the Film Archive and the Theatre History Museum. In 1969 the museum took the name of Hungarian Theatrical Institute.

Since 1991 our institute has been operating under the name of National Theatre History Museum and Institute.
