The museum of the National Széchenyi Library opened in 1996, on the 7th floor of the building. Its founder, Fülep Katalin, has been working at the library since 1983. Items of her collection are exhibited in the museum.
There is no similar museum in the whole world. It does not display a book historical exhibition or a single antique library hall, but the everyday athmosphere around the librarians and readers between the years 1802 and 1985. It displays items of several Hungarian libraries.
The permanent exhibition is entitled: Library of the nation - the workshop of service. The exhibition represents the furnishing of the library from the times between 1802 and 1985. It also displays other Hungarian storing devices, certain machines, stationeries, furniture, etc.
