The author lived here between 1897 - 1922. It was here that he wrote many of his works, including "Egri Csillagok" ("Eclipse of the Crescent Moon"). This historical novel describes the wars against the Turks during the sixteenth century.
The entrance hall of the house was used for storing the books right from the beginning. They count up to 10 thousands.
In his Bedroom all the furniture is in original position. It was at the small carved writing table that Gárdonyi wrote "Egri Csillagok". The paintings, the landscapes fixed on to his school slate bear witness to his love of painting. The homely bedroom is characterized by puritan simpleness.

The brownness of the study walls is evidence of Gárdonyi's passion for smoking. The roof lights were a necessary light source as the noise outside meant that the shutters had to be kept shut all day. When looking at his writing desk it is clear how much fascinating work he undertook. One can also see the cimbalom which belonged to Pista Dankó, leader of the Szeged gypsy band. In the glass showcases you can also see examples of Gárdonyi's secret script.
