In the middle of the 1960's the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture published its directives as regards to the collection of the industrial relics of the sector. According to these directives the management of the Animal and Meat Trade Trust in 1969 entrusted the National Meat Industry Research Institute with the collection work and exhibition of the relics of the national meat industry. The numerous items collected were displayed in the laundry of the former Meat Trade Company of Budapest.
The collection was first ready for exhibitions in 1974. Experts of the Ministry of Agriculture contributed to its formation a great deal. Since 1st January 1976 it has been working under the title of a 'museum', according to the written permission of the Ministry of Education, dated 31st December, 1975.
The 25th Conference of the European Researchers of Meat Industry was organised by the museum in 1979. This provided a reason for improving the collection, so in the year 1978 the exhibition put on a new form.
After the conference ten years passed by without any considerable change. By means of financial supports given by meat trade companies, plans of renovation were made in 1988. Renovation works were finished in 1990, and by the middle of October the new exhibition was ready to welcome the visitors.
