The dynamically developing town founded its museum at the beginning of the 90's even though collecting of the tradition s of peasant culture had began in the 1970-80.

The idea of founding a Museum first came up towards the end of the 80's. With the management of the local historian and ethnographer Hentz Lajos a collection concerning the town was created. The processed was hastened by the death of Hentz Lajos and the problem of placing those private collection s that the town inherited. The Orlai Petrics Soma Museum formed from in 1991.

The collection is growing continuously with ethnographic objects, textiles and archive photos. Nine years later it separated from the museum organizations and worked on as a museum collection

The institution has held several temporary exhibition s and programs. The 6-7 temporary exhibition s yearly show a diverse picture of the history as well as the fine and applied art of the town. Traveling exhibition enlarge the repertoire of the exhibition.
