The town of Komárom has had redoubts for centuries. Romans built up their defence system in the region then called Brigetion. These also hosted bakeries that supplied soldiers.

The fortifications of Komárom was built in 1809-1877 to protect Danube passages, crossings and the Budapest-Vienna road. The 'Csillag', 'Igmándi' and 'Monostori' fortresses were built during these constructions.

The Monostori Fortress was the biggest one built in Central Europe. The military bakery in the fortress on 2000m2 with 4 ovens supplied soldiers until 1945. In 1990, after the Russian army left Hungary, the fortress was declared national monument.

The Monostori Fortress Public Company began to utilize the monument in 2000. Hard work, Bakery Memorial Material researched by 360 bakers and the AMC helped the realization of the exhibition entitled 'Ration Bread' and 'News'.

Thus, the history of the bakery was first made public. A number of schools joined the programs and exhibitions. The 'Bread Museum' and the Monostori Fortress can be visited via guided tours.
