The exhibition starts with Hungarian words to be found sporadically in charters written in Latin, and ends with the everyday application of writing. It embraces the five-hundred history of Hungarian writing. Documents in Hungarian are the language memories that are among the most valued national values of Hungarians. A language memory exhibition of this size has never been organized in Hungary.

Every single language memory of outstanding value is included in the exhibition: early sparse language memories like the Tihany Act of Incorporation, the first continuous writing like the Funeral Sermon and the Old Hungarian "Lamentations of Mary", as well as almost all codices in the Hungarian language. Most of the codices ended up outside of Hungary, and so will be shown together for the first time. Countries lending their items are Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania, Austria and Croatia. The visitors have never had the chance to see three excepts from the Hussite Bible preserved in three countries: the Vienna, the Munich and the Apor Codices.

Brand new discoveries add to the material, and research works in process report on language memory, Applying modern IT methods. An effective installation and quality relics recall the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.

In the framework of the program "Taste, Lease and Fire" a representative catalogue is being prepared and a facsimile folder, the latter mostly for educational purposes. The cooperation of the MTA Institute for Linguistics and the National Library resulted in a homepage as the source for information on Hungarian language memories. For the public and education purposes another homepage is to be set up with popular information including voice recordings, pictures, interactive media etc. Museum pedagogy activities accompanying the exhibition are to serve the same purpose since the Kazinczy Library is to honour the Kazinczy Anniversary with a number of other showings. The Manuscript Archives presents the history of written Hungarian language, from the beginnings to the language reform, the relationship of Kazinczy and language memories.
