The documents displayed are from the heritage of the Illés Ferenczy in the Sticker History Museum. Illés Ferenczy tried to do everything he could when he was a Mayor (1960-1970) and assistant mayor (1970-1989) to save documents for the posterity.
The exhibition presents the process of Százhalombatta becoming a town through documents and video shots that were made in the year the town became a town. The documents are mostly records of speeches of the leaders of the MSZMP of Százhalombatta and the records of the meetings in the mayor's office.
By the help of the takes, we can follow the events in the year 1970 in the town. Some of the pictures displayed were taken at the festivities. A copy of the armored car of Lenin is shown in front of the Primary School.
Photos show the arrival of the train that was the exact copy of the armored train number 12. The train traveled around the country at the 50th anniversary of the Revolution of 1919. The development of the infrastructure is illustrated with a typical picture of the streets.
The well known event of the revolution provided excellent opportunities for the development of the town of Százhalombatta. From the point of view of economy, the measure of development had been decided oneand a half decade before the event. The support of the newly important chemical industry led to changes in the name of the village Tiszaszederkény, now Tiszaújváros but Leninváros before. The town Százhalombatta also received this title at that time.
On 19, 1970January, the secrertaryship of MSZMP, among them János Kádár, made the decision that Százhalombatta as well as Kisvárda and Dombóvár would become towns. Any town received a larger share of the budget than a village at that time. A strict set of rule was required to receive the title. Százhalombatta did not fulfill all the requirements. On the other hand, the industrial investment and the settling of workers were so significant that the town could hardly fulfill its task among the earlier framework.
The documents and the takes perfectly illustrate the period. Many of us know the language, the festive emotions, but by now, we manage to smile with nostalgia at the past just 35 years ago.
