The Unesco has declared 2015 the Year of Light, signing the important role that light plays in our lives. The events accompanying the Year of Light were initiated by the European Physical Society (ESP) then with the support of the United Nations and the Unesco it has become a word event.

On the occasion of the International Year of Light the De la Motte-Beer Palace cooperating with the Hungarian Architectural Museum presents the glass art of Miksa Róth born 150 years ago this year. Glass as „coloured sunlight” appears with the help of the artist’s extant works. The designs from Miksa Róth’s heritage kept in the Hungarian Architectural Museum are presented to the visitors through the history of some Hungarian buildings from the turn of the century.

Taking the original name and function of the rooms for the basis, the exhibition is divided into four parts. In the first room (Winter dining room) the visitor can get information about Miksa Róth’s life, can get an insight into the world of advertisement of the period by the artist’s drafts and booklets. The guests can become creators themselves by colouring the copies of the original Miksa Róth’s designs. The second room (Gobelin room) shows well-known public buildings from the turn of the century: The Building of the Parliament, the Music Academy, the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, baths, banks and insurance buildings. In the third room (Passion Room), which is named after the secco paintings depicting some episodes in the Passion of Jesus Christ, the glass compositions of Miksa Róth’s ecclesiastical buildings can be seen, among others the drafts to the Saint Stephen’s Basilica, the Calvinist Church at Kálvin Square, the Votive Church in Szeged, and the Chapel of the Mental Hospital at Lipótmező. The flower arrangement secco paintings of the last room (Bedroom) provide an ideal setting for the presentation of the private buildings at the turn of the century. The visitors can see the unique glass art creations of such villas and palace like lodging houses as the Gerbeaud- building, the house of Joseph Jahn, the Schiffer villa or the Marsaglia Palace in Milan. They can also get an insight in the world of the symbols of the period and of the opalescent and acid-etched glass techniques applied by Miksa Róth.
