An unusual permanent exhibition opens on the 150th anniversary of the death of Ignác Semmelweis at the Semmelweis Museum of Medical History Images from the Past of Medicine. The well-known "Images" this time are added roll-ups to give a new feature and update the old object assemblages.
The material is based on the former exhibition of the Semmelweis Museum of Medical History Semmelweis Icon and evokes how Semmelweis was esteemed through the past hundred years. The exhibition does not only examine the famous Hungarian physician's work from the angle of the history of science: the focus is on the presentation of the Semmelweis cult. Depictions of Semmelweis, documentary or feature films about him and also memoirs from the 19-20., historical presentation and promotional literature evoke the tragic life of a man. The exhibition also formulates the questions of how the tragedy unfolded in Semmelweis's life, and how and why his contemporaries, or even himself was responsible.
The exhibition created by Eszter Blahák and Benedek Varga is open until 30 August 2015 at the Semmelweis Museum then it will travel on to various universities in the country.
Foreign-language versions of the exhibition are also on the road: so far the UN headquarters in New York, Copenhagen, WHO headquarters and a number of foreign representation have hosted it. In September the visitors can see the exhibition at the Hungarian Embassy in Berlin, in October in Tehran, in December in Paris (UNESCO).
The showing of the Semmelweis Museum of Medical History <strong> can be visited free of charge on 20 August 2015.
