…In December 1949 party and government decision was made to build a metallurgical combine and a new town in the suburbs of Dunapentele. The following spring, the work commenced: first with the town, and then with the factory. As the first socialist town of the country it was in the centre of interest from the moment of its beginnings. In the handouts and in the press, Stalin City was a miracle, as at former site of a cornfield, in a few years' time, a new, vibrant city grew out of the ground. However, only the people who worked there, the locals knew what the real Stalin City was like with all its beauty and flaws.

The exhibition endeavours to present this period, with contemporary documents, photos, postcards and works of art. Most of the objects on display were donated to the museum by György Békési, in the local history of whom a great number of items reveal life in the 50s, 60s.

The objects and documents reveal, what image the residents, the people living there temporarily, guests to the city and also the central power had about it and hoe the central power modified that images to make it more ideal ...

The historian Mrs. Nagy Mónika Hodik
