It has been known for thousands of years in China, it was a cherished secret in the Roman Empire, expensive and mysterious luxury: it is silk. In the ancient West, t expressed sensuality, wealth and prestige, it was the counterpart of morality and moderation, the subject of admiration and at the same time hate.

The exhibition presents the legendary history of silk weaving lost to the present as well as the journey of textile through deserts, seas and mountain ranges, until it was utilised in the Roman Empire. Pannonia examples illustrate its use in fashion, cultural impacts, prehistoric, medieval and early modern use of silk.
