The occasion of the jubilee year 2014, 35 years of the existence of the Museum Village is processed by our colleague Mrs. Rózsa, Bernadette Bona in the exhibition house in Jármi. "When the film of our life is rolling in front of us ... The exhibition 'Time travel at the 35.year-old Sóstó Museum Village' is made up of six thematic units of which three are fundamental part of the museum.
The "first-pillar" features documents, construction plans and operating permits. The second deals with buildings relocations, demolitions, constructions, reconstructions, while the third unit is built around the museum collection: collecting works, processing, storage, and all of these in addition to scientific publications and exhibitions are dealt with here.
Based on this triad, the concept of a superstructure "live item" unfolds. The museum acts as host and its "opening up" to the public is vital condition for a successful operation. These include grand events, family and children's sessions, workshops, and also actively operating master craftsmen.
When presenting the thematic units, we turned to outstanding pieces in our ethnographic collection: chests. And it was not by chance: it is because the different types of chests, without exception, can be linked to one of the themes. Thus we find the military chest which in many families was to store the documents after military service was over, the timbered chest which which symbolises demolition or construction works, the chest of drawers representing collection of material substance. The guild chest is clearly linked to crafts, the tulip chest exhibited was an active participant in the events presenting traditional wedding parties for many years and now a symbol of our programs. Our domestic and foreign relations, our journeys to gain experience are symbolized by chests.
35 years of the Museum Village are revealed in photos and slides flowing out of chests. The exhibition is open until 8 November, and after the winter break it will reopen again on 1 April, 2015.
