The puppet design requires complex, multi-faceted skills. The puppet itself is a kind of synthesis. It implies a certain dramatic character that comes to life on stage. Puppet design requires sculptural skills, knowledge of raw materials and necessary skills of puppet mechanism. Puppet designers having traditional knowledge of puppet technology can create new types of puppets, can apply new mechanical solutions to provide dramaturgy a maximum service.

Puppet replace the actor on stage, but it is not the same as mimicking. We do not design tiny human figures, or natural animals. The puppet, due to its size, material, movement and also character is a kind of stylization, which, with its much richer world of form of help in shaping the character.

Wide range of materials are needed to produce a puppet: natural materials, plastics, paper, metal, leather, etc.. The experimenting designers would try all new material during their work. To design puppets for a performance is a game, experiment, fine and applied arts at the same time.„ Klaudia Orosz
How does the puppet design process go on? How does an idea find its final shape? The exhibition provides insight into the work prior to the performance. The exhibition explains techniques involving puppet and scenery design, the motion mechanisms, and of course the final result, the puppets themselves, in various stages of their creation.

The National Theatre Festival of Pécs has shown this exhibit in a slightly different form, but with the same title. Now visitors in Budapest can also inspect this strange world of puppets.
