Csáki-Maronyák József was a significant figure of Hungarian painting of the 20th century. He was among the artists who created in the classical spirit of fine art.

Csáki-Maronyák József was born in Orosháza in 1910, his teacher was Rudnay Gyula at the Fine Arts Collage of Budapest in 1929-1934 from where he graduated as an artist-teacher. His first exhibition was held in 1931 in Budapest in the National Salon. Later his participation at the exhibition titled the "Szinnyei Youth" was successful. His artistic development was based on his journey through Italy on bicycle where he visited the exhibition halls and wards. Seeing the excellent artworks, he realized his deficiencies. He began to draw and did so for years. He made man and woman nude studies. His pains had a good result: his still-lifes, landscapes and portraits became punctual.

His first independent exhibition was held in Budapest in 1942. From 1939, he also worked as a teacher at the Arts Grammar School of which he later became the principal. In 1945-1955, he worked as a professor and taught the student the practice of painting.

After 1945, Csáki-Maronyák József participated at several exhibitions abroad and in Hungary. In his long career, he proved that the relationship of man and his surroundings is an inexhaustible source of experience. The tone of his paintings is intimate. His organized compositions suggest the inner peace of the creator.

The audience knows Csáki-Maronyák József as excellent portrait painter. He made hundreds of portraits from the age 19. When Orosháza was a big village, he chose his subjects from his family, later they were public figures and famous people.

The artist was awarded with the Kossuth Prize in 1952, with the SZOT Prize in 1970. He was a founding member of the Association of Hungarian Fine Artists, The Fine Arts Fund. He was the vice president of the Union of Fine Artists for 20 years.

Csáki-Maronyák József died on 30, January 2002 in Orosháza.
