The tokajhegyalja wine land is situated in the triangle shaped area bordered by Abaújszántó, Tokaj and Sátoraljaújhely (the Southern part of the Zemplén mountains. The closed wine region is in the Northernmost zone of the European vine cultivation. The Tokaj wine had been dominating the region alone up to the end of the 19th century. It was popular also in England and France.

What is the secret of the Tokaj wine? We can talk about different geologicaland climatic influences. There are two main kinds of grapes that produce the special quality szamorodni and aszú wines and essentials. The storing of the wine used to be done in the famous 136 litre casks made in Gönc. The smaller amounts are bottled in the glass factories of the region.
