"...My heart rejoices and I praise" God that...the country, my sweet home, that is now free of the enemy, I leave behind." The quotation is from the political will of István Bocskai. It mirrors his deep devotion towards the nation and religion. The revolution thought the Habsburg to honour religious freedom and national right of orders.
A taste of the exhibition
When István Bocskai realized that in the King of the Habsburg House seated in Prague is unable to oust the Turks and unite the country, even the defence of the remaining country, he set up a revolt with the help of the Hajdú. The revolt turned into a revolution.

The military success brought along political achievements. The Transylvanian orders chose him the monarch of Transylvania in Nyárádszereda while the Hungarian orders chose him monarch in Szerencs. He devised his policy during his short reign. It defined the political scene of the forming country built on the independence of Transylvania that could provide of the royal rights of the Hungarian Kingdom.

To acknowledge the help of the Hajdú, he gave a number of privileges to them, as well as land and nobility. He did not forget his old estate, Kismarja either. The towns he supported in Hajdú and Bihar Counties never forgot about him, his political heritage.

The objective of the exhibition is to show the monarch of the only successful war of independence of Hungary, his life story, his relations to Bihar and Transylvania. We wish to highlight that without István Bocskai's devotion to his nation Hungarian history could have taken a very different turn, probably to the worst.
