The Lechner-Szmrecsányi family salutes the outstanding figure of Hungarian culture by showing works of art by BOLDI, who regularly shows at the annual Autumn Exhibition of Vásárhely. BOLDI's art is inspired by ancient Greek plastic art, especially the way he deals with form and portrait. Nature based approach is just as much characteristics of his art as high stylizing. The figures, portraits and natural forms he works with are perfectly polished and rounded. The exhibition located in the downstairs room of the gallery presents 56 statues by BOLDI, of which there is one of 500kg, and another 700 kg. The statues are mostly made of marble and granite, but there are a few of bronze and also two pilo-granite ones.
Since Boldizsár Szmrecsányi is the great-grandson of Ödön Lechner, the organizers decided to fill the rooms with works of art they inherited from artist members of the Lechner family. So, the visitors will see Boldizsár Szmrecsányi’s statues works by the architect Ödön Lechner (1845-1914), the painter and literary translator Gyula Lechner (1841 - 1914) the painter Ödön Lechner Jr. (1874-1910) and the painter and caricature artist Ödön (Pajtás) Szmrecsányi (1874-1954). The exhibition is open until 12 April.
