Hungary in Colour

The exhibition presents a remarkable collection never before seen in Hungary, recently discovered by researchers. The focal point of the exhibition is a series of photographs showcasing traditional Hungarian folk attire from various regions and settlements, originally displayed at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. Thought to have been lost, the photographs by János Tiedge have been loaned from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. continue

Gunpowder smoke among the stones of the fortress...

The outer and inner castle system was developed in the 1540s. The passage between them was the Dark Gate which is still visible today. The outer castle was destroyed in 1702, but the gate continued to be used and was only walled up at the beginning of the 19th century. continue

Tokaj Museum, Tokaj

Ecclesiological Exhibition

One of the most spectacular and the most valuable unit of the museum’s permanent exhibition is the ecclesiological exhibition on the first floor. Mr. Béla Béres, a priest from Tokaj offered his 800 pieces collection to his favourite town’s museum in 1981. continue
The Csíkzsögöd-born Imre Nagy (1893-1976) studied at the Art Teacher Training Collage, at the Colony of Artists in Szolnok and the Collage of Applied Arts in Budapest. He returned to the village of his birth in 1924 and lived there until 1949. He painted Székely people and landscape. In 1949 he moved to Kolozsvár, but often returned to Zsögöd te 'recharge'. continue
The museum building
Győr, the centre of the county governor was a fortified place from as early as the age of King Saint Stephen (1000-1038). The medieval castle encircled the Chapter Hill (Káptalandomb). The strategic importance of the castle was enlarged during the Turkish Age (16-17th centuries) when becoming the strongest fortress of the defence line it played the part of the defence bastion of the emperor's city (Vienna) and the whole Christian World. continue
OTP Bank Rt. - Monetary Historical Collection
Hungary's 150 year-old financial institution history is almost insignificant compared to the country's 1000 year-old legacy. Still, early memorabilia qualifying as rarities hold historical value; the documents represent an era and economy of a time gone by. These can now be visited in OTP Bank's Financial History Collection. continue
The Center for Visitors of Körösvölgy
The center of the Management of the Körös-Maros National Park is situated in the Csáky-Bolza Castle in the town of Szarvas in the Dead-Körös area. The headquarters is surrounded by 26 acres of park. The Anna Park is a unique green with exclusive values. Besides the natural beauty of the castle, the park also represents significant cultural values. continue
The museum building
The 'Husite' or 'Checz' house name can be found not only in Gönc, but in the surrounding settlements as well. Research workers still dispute whether the popular tradition - the house had been inhabited by actual Husites - is true or not. continue
Inside the museum
Since the birth of the Hungarian state (1000 A.D.) the city of Székesfehérvár, the Hungarian royal coronation and burial place had been one of the country's most important sacred centres. Saint Stephen (1000-1038) the first king of Hungary founded a privileged and independent priest association called the chapter of Székesfehérvár however the city did not have a bishop. The chapter was the guardian of the royal treasury and also the most important organisation of the state administration. continue
Region House
The village Vársád is nearly 800 years old. After the Turkish left, evangelic Germans settled in the uninhabited village in 1713-1786 arriving from the Hessen region. The new settlers were involved in farming and husbandry. Vine growing and pomology were also very emphatic. Almost all households had a press and a smaller vineyard. continue
