Hungary in Colour

The exhibition presents a remarkable collection never before seen in Hungary, recently discovered by researchers. The focal point of the exhibition is a series of photographs showcasing traditional Hungarian folk attire from various regions and settlements, originally displayed at the 1862 International Exhibition in London. Thought to have been lost, the photographs by János Tiedge have been loaned from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. continue

Gunpowder smoke among the stones of the fortress...

The outer and inner castle system was developed in the 1540s. The passage between them was the Dark Gate which is still visible today. The outer castle was destroyed in 1702, but the gate continued to be used and was only walled up at the beginning of the 19th century. continue

Tokaj Museum, Tokaj

Ecclesiological Exhibition

One of the most spectacular and the most valuable unit of the museum’s permanent exhibition is the ecclesiological exhibition on the first floor. Mr. Béla Béres, a priest from Tokaj offered his 800 pieces collection to his favourite town’s museum in 1981. continue
Inside the museum
The renovated building and the exhibition was handed over in the year of the 1100th anniversary (1996) of the Hungarian conquest. The exhibition recalls the memory of the theatric performances in Miskolc. The thought first occoured in 1984 and 12 year later, on the initiative of actor Ferenc Gyarmati, the exhibition was arranged. continue
The museum building
The collection is open in a beautiful baroque house of the Enchy family built in 1749 in 70, Rákóczi Street, Tállya. The value of the collection is in its regional nature since the minerals, fossils and geographic rarities from Tokaj-Hegyalja and the Mountains of Zemplén are shown completely. continue
The museum building
The museum situated at the main street of the settlement was built in 1905 and took the name of Mrs. Imre Vankó (maiden name: Juli Dudás) in 1989. The minor part of the museum represents the interior of the former house of the relatively rich peasant Kurucz family. The major part of the exhibition consists of the works by Juli Dudás. continue

The Antiauity Department of the Museum of Fine Arts bought the copy collection at the beginning of the 20th century.The collection in the Kuny Domokos Museum is shown downstairs the synagogue. The gallery holds 100 works born in Hellenism. continue
The Village Museum building
The house reconstructed to present the life and equipments of the tenants of Füzér was built in 1879 according to the date carved in the crossbeam. The house is situated in the backyard. Beside the house a so-called 'hidasól' (sty) and a 'sop' can be found. The pattern of the peasant houses followed the room-porch-chamber partitioning with a separate barn. continue
Géza Kiss Ormánság Museum and Region House
At the beginning of the 1950'ies a few devoted teachers and educational experts decided to found a museum in Sellye, the "capital" of Ormánság region… The collection was placed in the ethnographic department of the Janus Pannonius Museum, and in return the museum arranged an exhibition for the collection in Selye. This exhibition was opened in the Draskovich mansion on 4th April 1960, under the title of The Popular Arts of Ormánság. continue

Thanks to her growing sense of nationhood and her developing middle class, during the course of the nineteenth century Hungary saw the creation of several museums. First among these new institutions was the National Museum. A museum dedicated solely to the history of Budapest came into existence only toward the end of the last century. Its core collection consisted of finds from the building sites, from archaeological excavations, and earlier collections which help shed light on of Budapest's history. continue
