The art of Károly Kelemen is a unique dash of colour in contemporary Hungarian art. The painter Károly Kelemen was born in Győr. He graduated from the Collage of Fine Arts of Hungary in 1974. This same year, he gained significant success at an art festival.
During his career, he asked questions that reflected on the bases of post-modern art, the relationship of art and art history, artist and artwork, actuality and art, art system and the artist. He continuously experimented with new ideas and techniques. He also organized performances. Shortly, he tried his talent in all genders. His art and approach can be characterised by continuous revival even nowadays.
He borrowed linguistic means from the stylistic history of the 80's paintings. Thus, the methods of futurism, cubism, expressionism, as well as ways of compositions from baroque or classicism. Political symbols, photos of historic personae can sometimes be seen among his motifs. In the middle of the decade, teddy bears became important characters in his paintings, the museum as symbol of art. Following this, he worked on postcards. He painted figures of porno magazines, the emptiness of lust and faith.
He made masques at the turn of the Millennia where the objects known from his works of art were dressed with personal characteristics typical of men of our times. He paints like a hyperrealist. He copies gender pictures from cookbooks, but also colours his former black-and-white photos.
The centre of Károly Kelemen's art is the most modern phenomena of our times, the loss of value. His works of art are characterised with honesty, authenticity and pure vision.
