It has been 25 years since we began collecting material. First, it was just a passion; later we were more and more obsessed with collecting dolls. We only realized after years of amassing the cultural value of the old dolls on the attic.
In 1993 we though that the collection was large enough for an exhibition. We decided to realize the Tihany Doll's Museum. We are sure that the visitors will have a unique experience and we will be further encouraged to continue with our collecting work.
German doll manufacturers made many of the objects displayed in the Tihany Doll's Museum from 1850 until the porcelain dolls were no longer manufactured in Germany in 1920. JULIUS STEINER (1878) and S. E B. J. (around 1900) represent the French doll manufacturers
The dolls are dressed in their original cloths complemented with accessories. Original furnishing of kitchens, living rooms, and shops can also be seen. The toy animals were made by the STEIF.
We would like to exhibit our material in other countries as well part of an exchange scheme.
The museum provides opportunity to present the Hungarian and the European folk clothing of the dolls.
The trademark of the Tihany Doll's Museum protects the dolls that our association designed and the manufacturer executed the work in a demanding fashion. The sale of these products is confined to individual pieces and number.
50 memorial pieces were made for the occasion of the opening of the Doll's Museum. These dolls representing the classic clothing beside the Torocko series are the works of Éva Szurdi and Mrs. Kis, Mária Juhász.
