The house was built at the turnover of the 18th century. It was built as a forest guard flat by prince Couburg. It functioned as a forest house till 1937. During the war deported Jews were accomodated here. After the war wood-cutters and gardeners were living in the house. Since 1999 the local council of Cserépfalu has been operating the building as a region house.
The peculiarity of the house is that it the only house in the region that was built of mud bricks.
The first room in the house is like a kitchen used in during summer. Apart from the various kitchen facilities visitors can look at the so called 'machine', which was used for cooking in summer and smoking the meats in winter time.
To the right of the summer kitchen there opens the large room, the so called Calvinist room – with an enteriour typical to the Calvinists of Cserépfalu and Noszvaj. The pictures are not made of saints and the cusifix, but historical events, Biblical quotes, family photographs. The written blessing cannot be missing from the wall.
The huge stove makes up almost one quarter of the room. This kind of stove – because of the expensive running costs - had not become cutomary in the region.
The Calvinist room also contained clean fabrics and undergarments. The carved corner bench around the table is one of the most beautiful items of the room. The cupboard is standing by the side of the stove.
From the Calvinist room we enter into the so called clean or Catholic room. Piczures of saints are hanging on thw wall. This was obviosly the room of a rich person. There are two highly made beds, with a tuliped box in between. A small box belongs to the big one. This served for keeping the money and important documents.
The last room is a lard which opens to the left of the summer kitchen. There is a cellar underneath. Tools of everyday life (saussage filler, churn, mangling board, brush drill etc.) are found here.
Those interested in how 'forest' people lived at the turn of the century, are most welcome to visit the Hór-valley and our region house.
