The predecessor of the National Educational Library and Museum was opened to the public in 1877 when Ágoston Trefort was the minister. The task of The National Museum of Educational Equipments of that time, was to promote the realization of József Eötvös's Education Act supplying public schools with educational equipments. Characteristic was of its various activities that it collected not only old educational equipments but organized the presentation of contemporary educational ones, too. After closing down the institution in 1922. The National Educational Library was reorganized firstly (1958) and ten years later in 1968 the Museum has opened its doors.
Nowadays, exhibitions are organized about the past of Hungarian education in this museum. Our aim is, that pupils, students, teachers, - visit us at least once in their life - and experience that this documents and objects of educational history really have "colour, smell, presentation". They should see how those things, they are reading about looked like in the past and nowadays, and real persons belong to the names. They should become acquainted with the period, the school, the educational objects and the studentlife of their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. Grab a quill, dipp it in the inkstand and write some lines in a lined copy-book without inkblot! Promise you, the boisterous children should not be kneeling on maize and the cane will only be used for demonstration. Let visit our exhibition "Orbis Pictus - Demonstration in school"!
