Keszthely, the capital city of the Balaton looks back to a history of 750 years. It does attract people not only for the opportunities offered by the Balaton, but also for its wonderful parks, old buildings and high cultural and intellectual life. The Festetics family played an important role in the economic and cultural development of the town. Their influence is still felt today. In 1797 Earl György Festetics founded the Georgikont, the first agricultural university in Europe.
The mutual efforts of the Hungarian Agricultural Museum and the Agricultural University of Keszthely resullted in that the school buildings erected at the beginning of the 19th century still stand today. This group of monuments have hgiven home to the Georgikon Museum since 1972.
Visitrors can get acquainted with the history of the Hungarian agriculture and the education pursued in Keszthely.
