Count Károly Esterházy Mansion and County Museum - Pápa
The museum building
Address: 8500, Pápa Várkastély, Fő tér 1.
Phone number: (89) 313-584
Opening hours: A múzeum egész évben zárva tart.
The museum established in 1959 functions in the mansion of the Esterházy-family.

In the 18th century the aristocrat family turned the medieval castle into a baroque mansion. The representative baroque mansion gained its present form in the 17th and 18th centuries, according to the sketches of architect Franz Anton.

Unfortunately the building suffered grave harms during the second world war. However, some of its rooms were successfully renovated in the 1960'ies and 70'ies.

The museum itself owns significant collections. Its archaeological, ethnographic, historical, numismatics and fine arts collections contain about 100 thousands items. The materials are supplemented by a library as well.

Pápa is a town of significant history. The purpose of the museum is to discover this history and collect the relics connected to it.
