The home of István Simon (1926-1975) in Bazsi is now a museum representing the life-work of the poet.

The Memorial House recalls the poetry and the life of István Simon István. The poet himsef said: "Writers would like to express what makes them write. In my case it really is the home land to blame."

In the first room we present the way the family of the poet lived. The peasant-civilian enteriour recalls the turnover the 19th and 20th centuries.

The literature historical exhibition is arranged in the kitchen. The manuscripte and documents displayed represent where the poet started from and returned all his lefe. Manuscripts and notes sum up the beginning of the poet's work as a poet.

Photographs are displayed of the poet's childhood and adolescence. These pictures can give us a sense of the way the family and the landscape influenced the artist. The poet regarded the region as something really beautiful, literary and historical.

The second part of the exhibition represents the work of István Simon from the time he left his home village. Empases are made upon the stations of his literary and social achievements. Documents, manuscripts, various rewards, books and photographs give evidence of the wa his work was appreciated.

He did not consider it a shame to learn from the masters that had worked before him. He partly followed the example of Gyula Illyés, and also learnt a lot from Gyula Takács, regarding the relationship of human beings and history and nature. In his poems he is also influenced by the Transsylvanian songs. He could keep the sources of his art till the end.
