The Museum of Körmend founded in 1965 is located in the main building of the Batthyány-Strattmann castle built in the 17th century. The castle was built on walls of an old castle of the 15th century. Wall paintings from the 17-18th centuries ornament its facade.
The most significant part of the museum is the historic and ethnographic collection. The permanent exhibition held in 1994 titled 'Heritage of Generations' presented the region of Körmend, its archeological findings, the important documents from the Battyányi Archives, documents of 38 guilds, and the cultural memories from the turn of the 19-20 centuries. The most important pieces are: treasures found in Körmend (14-15th century), the will of Ferenc Batthyány written on parchment, the guild jug of the butcher guild number 1726, the velocipede of the Udvardi brothers (19th c.), the private collection of Lajos Molnár, and the collection on the national history of guilds collection.
