Mihály Zichy (14, October 1827) is one of the most significant figures of Hungarian painting and graphics. The mastery of his works, his daring drawings and aquarelles was the center of amazement in the past.

The territory of Zala is just around 2000 hectares. The landowners and nobles of the area were the Zichy who moved from Zics to Zala, a village nearby, at the beginning of the 19th century.

The one story noble cottage was built around 1829. Zichy had a building of the shape 'L' attached to the original part. The family founded the Mihály Zichy Memorial Museum in 1927. The studio is furnished of the heritage of the artist. Presently, approximately all the castle, eight rooms opening from one another, is made up by the museum. The great grandson of the artist occupies the back of the building. His flat serves as a private museum.

The pictures painted by Zichy borrowed from the Hungarian National Gallery and the Rippl-Rónai Museum complement the heritage of the family.
