The building of the museum is the ex-Horváth Inn in the cottage district of Balatonszárszó. The most significant poet of the 20th century in Hungary, Attila József (1905-1937) spent his last few weeks there. (November - December 1937) From 1957, the building hosts an exhibition presenting the life of the poet.

The birthday of the poet is 11, April. On that day in 1997 we opened a brand new exhibition titled 'The Son of the Streets and Earth'. Since the National Literal Museum does not have a temporary Attila József exhibition, our new display has a great significance.

The material was taken from the collection of the Petőfi Literal Museum and the County Museum of Somogy County.
