If we wish to study the appearance of Cubism then we must visit the permanent exhibition presenting the oeuvre of János Kmetty in Szentendre. János Kmetty (1889-1975) is one of the artist who was involved in nationalizing the French Cubism in Hungarian fine art. His whole oeuvre is connected in many ways to the art of the period.

The art of Kmetty was influenced by Impressionism in the 1910's, but in the 20-30's it is him who influences the artists of Nagybánya. The changes came after his journeys in Paris in 1911 and 1927. Kmetty found it important to learn of the modern ideas, the cubist constructions, but the biggest influence was pondering on the build up of the paintings of Cézanne. In Hungary, he joined the activists surrounding Lajos Kassák and in 1924 the New Company of Artists. (KUT)

Besides Nagybánya and Paris, the third important station in his life was Szentendre. First, he went there for the summers from 1930, later he spent more and more time there with working. He became the member of the Old Artist Camp in 1945. The topic of his aquarelle, oil paintings is Szentendre. Before his death, he also chose Szentendre as the topic of his window designs.

The exhibition in Szentendre presents the work of the artist in units of his artistic periods in chronological order.

The Kmetty Museum opened on 18, May 2003, on the World Day of Museums. The Kerényi Collection is temporarily located in the made in the 17th century. Jenő Kerényi (1908-1975) mainly creates statues for public places. The development of his art faithfully mirrors being in the grip for the Hungarian artists in the middle of the 20th century, the intention to create balance, and thwarting urges.
