The Ferenczy Museum was founded in 1951. It was named after the painter Károly Ferenczy who lived in Szentendre with his family in.
It was possible to create a museum in the 1930's. An archeological exhibition opened in the building of the Town's Hall of the findings of the excavation of a Roman Camp supervised by Dr. Lajos Nagy. This collection was destroyed in the war. Only the largest stones stayed intact.
The exhibition opened in 1972 commemorates the outstanding artistic achievement of the Ferenczy family. The museum will close in 2009 and the exhibition will be moved to the building of the management of the museum. In the meantime, it welcomes the visitors in a renewed atmosphere showing two works of Ferenczy Noémi that have been in private collections up to now.
