The operational permission was given to the Region History Collection in 1966. During the more than 30 years of its existance it had to move several times, until it found its final home in 1992. The town has been its maintainer ever since.

The collection of about 5000 items can be seen in 5 exhibition halls. It has three stores and a cultivated park. Three halls of the five are used for the permanent exhibitions. The other two are available for temporal exhibitions. The permanent exhibitions represent the archeologic and historic materials of the ages before the 20th century. The ethnography collection shows materials spanning from the 18th century to the first part of the 20th century. 7 to 10 temporal exhibitions are held annually. These show the values of various settlements in the region. Occasionally we give olace for cultural programmes, too.

Each year we invite researchers to give historical lectures about our town. We also give opportunities to researchers to study from our materials.
