The ethnographical, historical and archeological relics of the town were moved to their final place (Nagykun District Prison) in 1968. It became a museum in 1985. It has been welcoming visitors with altering exhibitions.
The garden and prison wall of the museum provides a unique athmosphere at the bank of the Kőrös. The thick walls and barred windows were elevated in 1782 for the prisoners of Jászkun area. The building was built because the previous prison had proved too little and unstable. A periodical at the beginning of the 18th century mentions this mansion house of Kunszentmártonról.
The roundish chapel of the building was used to be called as a death cell, though executions were never accomplished here. The relics of the culture of Kunszentmárton and Tiszazug are kept here. Most of the items can be seen at the permanent exhibition. Apart form the regional and historical objects, visitors can also learn about the history, tools and products of local workshops. Here is the only museological confectioner workshop of the country, and a well equiepped coppersmith workshop, unique to the Trans-Tiszaian region.
