The museum started collecting the works of the master born in Sáregyes as early as at the end of the 1930'ies. That is when the museum got hold of the grandguignol composition of Erzsébet Báthory, which was lost in the battles fought for Fehérvár (1944-45). István Csók gifted three more pictures (portrits of his parents and self-portrait) to the museum in 1938. After his death his daughter submitted more art works and a good number of family relics and old furniture.

This is how the opening of the museum - by means of the help of the Hungarian National Gallery - was made possible.
