As special institution of Slovakian Hungarian Culture Museum, it studies the history and culture of Hungarians living in Slovakia. Parallel with this, it also practices scientific, documenting and methodology work.

Experiments of establishment of a representative museum signifying the history, culture, traditions and values of Hungarians has a long history. There were two main variations for the project in the past decades: one was the restructuring of a already operating museum and open it as the museum of Hungarian Culture, the other the establishment of a specialized institution similar to that of the system of National Museums operating as part of Slovakian National Museum. The Slovakian Cultural Government chose the latter.

Taking the first step, the Documentary Centre of Hungarian Culture was founded on 1 July 2001. After the first year, it received a new memorandum of association. From July 2002, the museum operated as Museum of Slovakian Hungarian Culture, an independent unit of Slovakian National Museum.

its centre is located in Bratislava, in the Brämer Mansion, at 18 Žižka Street. Exhibitions in the old mansion present records of Hungarians from Slovakia with special focus on crusps in history and lining up the most characteristic values of folk art.

Works of art by contemporary artist are displayed at temporary exhibitions in the Museum Art Galleria.
