The Theatre Museum of Vojvodina was founded in 1982 in Novi Sad. All artefacts that are witnessing on rich tradition of theatre life in today's Vojvodina between 1951 and 1982 were collected and preserved by Theatre Department of Museum of Vojvodina. During 25 years of its existence, since it became an independent institution, number of artefacts collected grew constantly.

Main Museum's activities are to systematically record, preserve, study and exhibit collected materials. Beside it, in the process of establishing is creation of Museum's collection while the computed data base creation is expected to be made in near future. Among collections whose creation is in progress the richest is the Posters and Photography collection while the youngest is The Doll Collection.

The Museum developed rich publishing activity. Museum's employees as well as their associates are continuously following repertoires as well as activities of all professional theatres in Vojvodina. Artefacts that were collected and published in The Almanac of Theatres in Vojvodina created conditions that supported research of theatre life in multinational Vojvodina. The Almanac, as a significant data base, exists since 1966, while since 2004 The Museum publishes the journal The Stage of Vojvodina.

Within the project The Theatre culture in Vojvodina region since ancient times till present, the Museum plans to publish monographs on prominent theatre workers as well as works from the fields of theory and history of theatre arts. First publications are already at reader's disposal. Consecutive to the project's tendency to elaborate theatre culture of multinational Vojvodina, parallel to Serbian editorial board the editorial boards that are researching theatre culture of Hungarians, Slovaks, Rumanians, Ruthenians, Croats and Roma were established. Editor in chief of Hungarian editorial board is Dr Kaich Katalin which is, in the same time, The President of the Administrative Board of The Museum of Vojvodina.

The Museum organizes regularly scientific and expert's meetings. Last year, among others, The Museum invited all interested individuals and institutions to participate at the conference Sterija at the stage of national minorities in Vojvodina. Since 1993, The Museum organizes a permanent tribune 'The Portrait of Theatre Artist". Up to now some of the portraits were dedicated to the following artists: Pataki Laszló, Vitkayné Kovács Vera, Romhányi Ibi, Fejes György, Kama Margit, Ferenczi Jenő and Gyurcsics Erzsébet. About their personalities and careers spoke actors, directors, critics and theatre theorists.

The Theatre Museum of Vojvodina awards annually the Prize "Lovorov venae" to all meritorious individuals that dedicated their lives to theatre, in the fields of aesthetics, theory and theatre history.

Beside of its main activities on collection, perseverance and research of artefacts, The Museum is active in all events that are connected to theatre arts. In order to achieve the already established goals, during the past few years Memorandums of Agreement were signed with many associates as well as with institutions in the country and abroad that are practicing same or similar activities. Among them is an institution like The Hungarian Theatre Museum and Institute.

Since 2003 in The Museum is engaged the museum custodian that speaks Hungarian, for the processing of artefacts of theatre arts in Hungarian language, while since 2007 the museum custodian that speaks Rumanian has been employed as well.

Managers, employees, associates and friends of The Museum are hoping that the Province Secretariat for Education and Culture will continue to follow up the work of The Theatre Museum of Vojvodina as well as that the problem with the lack of working space will be solved in near future.
