Phone number: (82) 314-011

Kaposvár is the favored birth place of the two giant painters Rippl Rónai József and Vaszary János - both significant artists of modern Hungarian artwork. Within seven years in 1861 and 1867 they were born here as children of popular pedagogic families.

Beside the Rippl-Rónai Memorial Museum at Róma-hegy the town Kaposvár is opening another permanent exhibition under Zárda utca 9. at the birth place of Vaszary János. The outstanding importance of this place was certified yet by a memorial marker having been inaugurated to the centenary of birth of the painter in 1967. But now You may enter this house and You will be convinced by a fantastic life work. His name is always mentioned among the greatest Hungarian painters, certified by constant exhibitions of the most important Hungarian museums, by a lot of international ones, similarly to several private collections and to his success at public sales.

The Vaszary Memorial House could have been opened by the help of the Hungarian National Gallery - the treasury of the painter's artwork - by lending altogether 23 compositions, added to the three ones lent by the Rippl-Rónai Museum in Kaposvár. The constant exhibition was completed by some late 19th century cane-sheat furniture of the Museum Of Applied Arts.
