Nowhere in Hungary, nor anywhere else in Europe, has a town tackled the task of recounting the history of the Communist dictatorship's fifty years. The time has come, because just as we close our sentences with a full stop, that era will only become part of our history, if we put a EMLÉKPONT after it.

EMLÉKPONT (Remembrance Point) may be the first museum in Europe to utilize the history of a town, the reflections of the local people about their past, for displaying the Communist era between 1945 and 1990 - the period characterized by Soviet occupation and the single-party state.

This exhibition is journey through time that enraptures us and hurls us back into the past. All the distressing and joyful recollections of the past half-century reappear on our way, enabling us to relive the whole period. Who were the people living at the time in Vásárhely, and how did they actually get by in that half-century? Who were those who shaped and those who suffered during those almost fifty years. The creators of the exhibition have recorded more than 150 valuable recollections in which the people from Vásárhely share their most personal memories with us - the saddest, as well as some joyous ones. The stories are not simply black or white; jokes were also born from the monotonous daily rounds; people had a lust for life. At the same time eyewitnesses of the era also revive stories which they were not allowed to talk about decades, as well as the fate of those who were not allowed to commemorated until 1990.

The exhibition revives all this using the most modern means; with special objects and effects, as well as unique spectacle. EMLÉKPONT has became a place of encounters and conversations. One thing is for sure; whoever comes to EMLÉKPONT leaves the place reached. The visitor not only gains learning and knowledge, but may feel a human closeness to history.
