The settlement inhabited from the Árpád Age is in Fejér County, West Hungary First it was mentioned in a charter in 1138. In 1342 it belonged to the Estate of Simontornya. It was probably devastated during the Turkish reign and was repopulated again at the end of the 17th century. The village originally owned by many noble families was seized by the Count Festetics family around 1760. They owned it up to WWII. The family left the castle in Dég in 1944. The building served as a home for children from 1945 until its nationalization in 1996.

The building of the castle was commissioned to Pollack Mihály (1773-1855), friend of the family, by the Count Festetics Antal (1764-1853). It was under construction from 1815 to 1819. The castle was surrounded by the most significant English garden of the country.
