The opening of the tree-planting museum of Bugac took place on 5th August 1984, on the occasion of a meeting of the National Forestry Union.

By means of the permanent exhibition of the museum, visitors can learn about the biology of the forests of the Great Hungarian Plain; historical trade and legal documents; archives materials; professional booklets on for instance the climatic and soil scientific issues of the area. To all this a worthy frame is provided by a collection of some wooden statues and old machines and tools.

A taste of the exhibition
The indigenous forests of the Great Hungarian Plains had almost been destroyed under the Turkish occupation. The sand was fast spreading. Without its fixation it was impossible to cultivate the soil in many places. The idea of reforestation was brought about by economical necessity. continue
