The 'decision' on the foundation of the Stud Farm was signed on 20, December 1784. The Emperor Joseph signed the document to renew the stud. The Stud Farm began to function as a military stud institution and continued to do so until WWII.

Mezőhegyes played an important role in the horse breeding in Hungary, since it always served as a good example for Hungarian horse breeding. The first hors named Nóniusz was first bred there just like the Furioso-North Star and the Gidrán. All breeds of the last two centuries have turned up in Mezőhegyes.

The State nationalized the stud after its existence of 220 years and formed the National Stud Ltd of Mezőhegyes that included all the animals and experience of the past. Now the stud with its 200 horses belongs to the Nation.

There are 15 coaches, sledges and other vehicles in the museum as well as harnesses.

The museum is in the center of the historic stud among the old headquarters, the arena, the barracks of the officers and the barns.

The garden forms a living museum with the coaches. This scene is a unique example of our agriculture of the past 220 years.
