The base of the Rákóczi Castle was put down in the 16th century. Vay Tihamér rebuilt the castle in 1870. The Rákóczi family commissioned the building surrounded by a wall made of stone which is proven by the two remaining watchtowers. It is a two storey building nowadays even though it had only one storey until the beginning of the 1800's with two corner towers. The molding also show this breakdown.

The surroundings of the castle were full of plant rarities. Nevertheless, during the war they were cut down and only a Ginko Biloba remained. Only a small fraction of the furniture remained intact in the castle, so was the case with the book collection of the Vay family. The life-size Rákóczi picture in the ballroom was probably made for the 1000th anniversary of the establishment of the country. The names of Halász Hradil Rezső from Miskolc and the restorer Radácsi Endre reads on the canvas. A permanent Rákóczi exhibition is open in the castle. The material downstairs shows the life of Rákóczi Zsigmond while that on the second floor introduces Rákóczi Ferenc II.

The famous Rákóczy castle functions as a primary school since 1956. The name of the town and the Rákóczi family are interlocked. It took on the name as living name. We groom the Rákóczi tradition. The famous Rákóczy castle functions as a primary school since 1954. At present, children from 6 settlements commute to school every day. The Self-governments maintain the institution in the form of a cooperation.

The castle was built by Rákóczi Zsigmond, the man who generated the Rákóczi wealth. Near the castle we know today, there is a wooden castle where Rákóczi Zsigmond was born. Today, lower graders go to that castle.

The exhibition downstairs show the life of Rákóczi Zsigmond, the one upstairs present the life of Rákóczi Ferenc II. Furniture and a memorial tablet are in the ballroom, as well as a life-size picture of Rákóczi Ferenc made for the 1000th anniversary.
