"Europe is not eager to know if we have adopted all the elements of European culture but wishes to learn the things we can enrich European culture with from our sources."
On basis of the great Hungarian ethnographist, István Györffy's thoughts the Szórakaténusz Toy Museum and Handworkshop was born in 1981 as a new model of the Hungarian public collection net on Pál Bánszky's initiative designed by József Kerényi, the Kossuth-prize owner architect.
One of its basic tasks is collecting and elaborating the objective and intellectual values of the Hungarian and universal play culture. Collecting documents and objects representing the whole Hungarian play culture is an important point of development.
The basic characteristic of Szórakaténusz Toy Museum and Handworkshop is organizing activities especially on toy creating and folk-craft workshop.
