Similarly to the past decades, the new exhibition at the King St. Stephen Museum is to show the freshest artistic intentions via contemporary works of art. Twenty comic strips by young fine artists are the novelty of this year’s showing. This is the first time comics made with artistic vein are shown at our museum. And not only is it the first time for the scripts but also for the young artists who have never shown before.
Comics are a unique blend of fine art and literature. They are narrative works where picture and text are interlocked and complete one another when telling a story. Nevertheless, good comics do not really need text to make sense. This special genre has been increasingly popular in Hungary in the past decades. It is made in extremely various styles and by a great variety of techniques. The artists invited show this variegation by their sometimes humorous other times morose comics. The comics on display provide a comprehensive view of Hungarian comic strip art.
The exhibiting artists are Barnabás Ábrai, András Baranyai (b), Bálint Benkovits, Dávid Cserkuti, Dániel Csordás, János Dorcsinecz, Tamás Gáspár, Zoltán Fehér, Attila Futaki, Balázs Gróf, Tibor Kárpáti, Mátyás Lanczinger, Róbert Odegnál, Dóri Sirály, Attila Stark , Balázs Szabó, Géza Szöllősi, Szabolcs Tebeli, Richárd Vass, Csaba Zabos
