The above quote reads on one of the richly decorated red honey hearts displayed in the gingerbread workshop. Such gifts were to girls by boys in love they bought at fairs.

The tradition of gingerbread making dates back all the way to antiquity, as the Greeks and Romans served them on their holidays. Debrecen has always been an important centre for gingerbread making in Hungary. Visitors can have a look close up at the surviving decorative honey plates, hearts, dolls, cradles and shoes in the gingerbread workshop of the new permanent exhibition.

The spectacular exhibition selected from works of Sándor Kerékgyártó, a former master craftsman of Debrecen. This is the first time the collection as such is shown.
