The little village Prügy with its approximately 3000 inhabitants can be found in the Taktaköz 10 km from Szerencs which is the "Gate of Hegyalja" and 20 km from the town of vine and wines, Tokaj. The tourist sight of the village is the Zsigmond Móricz Local Museum being one of the most famous literary cult places in this region which is full of with historical memories of places. Our great writer Zsigmond Móricz spent some determining years of his childhood here between 1887-1892.
The three-part divided farm house from the end of the nineteenth century built in 1897 now functions as a house of memory. In the place of this house the wattle house with thatched roof and whitewashed walls stood which was bought by Bálint Móricz in 1887 and in the night of 27th December, 1891 it burnt down. The land had five different owners between 1892-1971. Since the house became the property of the village (1971) it has been functioning as the Zsigmond Móricz Local Museum.
In the Zsigmond Móricz Local Museum there is a permanent exhibition showing the contents, furniture, consumer goods and working tools of the peasant life of the period (the end of the 19th century). There is another permanent exhibition to the memory of Zsigmond Móricz to be seen in the museum. This exhibition shows the course of life of his based on local documents or rather copies of documents, photos, books and old book curiosities.
The furnishings of the house and the Móricz family's memento from the time they lived in Prügy were collected by Mr. András Tassonyi, deceased.
