The African Museum was founded by Dr. Endre Nagy in 1913. He completed his schools in Keszthely, and later graduated as a lawyer in Pécs. He got a shootermasterly diploma in Germany.
Because of his secret marriage with Alexandra Hatvany, He was emprisoned in 1944. However, the new government after the Horty regime released him in 1950.
He and his family was constrained to flee from the political storm of the communistic system. He worked in the hunting field in Germany and Austriy.
Following three African collection trips he left Europe in 1958 and settled in Tanzania, where he worked for zoos and museums as a collector and animal catcher. After some years ha became one of the most famous hunters. He established a zoo and an animal park.
HIn 1984 he took most of his hunting and ethnographic collection to his family mansion in Balatonederics, which has been functioning asa museum ever since.
He was awarded various prizes both in Tanzania and Hungary. A good number of hos articles were published in foreign and local periodicals.
After his death of 1994 4 hunting groups, a primary school and a lake in Tanzania are nominated after his name. His second wife is taking care and develops the African Museum.
