Frigyes Kőnig's artistic approach is based on science-based inquiry, research, experience, cognition and experimentation. He has been interested in column for years, one of the most ancient and most rudimentary architectural forms. According to his words, the column is the order of itself, the law, stability, and people would really like to walk along them. When we set up a stone it is response against gravity, the construction begins with this symbolic gesture. It is not only about defeating gravitation, it is also symbolically a link between Earth and sky.
He first became interested the Church of St. Donat in Zadar in 2011. Then he met Croatian artists, and as a result, he made an organic sculpture inspired by a column in Greek proportions he discovered on the island of Hvar.
At the exhibition in Székesfehérvár, Frigyes Kőnig shows paintings, statues and graphics related to the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. Works of art from the summer camps in Jelsa, a town on the island of Hvar, from the past 3 years will be shown, as well as the documentation for preparation of the statues and also new items from the series.
A few years ago, during a visit to the Church of St. Donat in Zadar, I noticed that fragments of the building of the ancient building and other elements were used to put down foundation. The carved details were easy to see, as well as the column fragments with fluting. The Christian Church that was built in the 17th century in the Roman Forum area was made with the remains of the former Basilica. The elements of the former building served as foundation for a new church. These columns do not hold anything, do not carry heavy loads, they are in the state of growth. The columns of sense and order are the same as often carry meaning representing the world order and law the same law that Plato had as his pillars of law and order.
They are the same as the columns in the Book of Job, in other words, the columns of the world, which even of Earth is wobbling, keep Earth's wobble is strongly in order. The columns of increasing height reveal form-conscious approach, which is one of the most important features of European art.
wrote Kőnig about his series Colonnade.
